Blanton Courtyard – Family Photo Session

Blanton Courtyard – Family Photo Session

Blanton Museum Courtyard | Family Photo Session

I last photographed this family in Pease Park. For this year’s holiday photo session, they chose the Blanton Museum Courtyard on the University of Texas campus as their location.

Once I double checked the Blanton’s Events page and the University of Texas Football schedule to make sure there wouldn’t be conflicts, we were set. FYI: the Museum is closed on Mondays if you want to go when it’s least crowded in the Courtyard.

Tips for a Family Photo Session at the Blanton Museum:

  • PARKING: I always recommend paying for parking at the Brazos Garage on MLK and then walking over.
  • LOCATIONS: There are so many intersesting and colorful backgrounds in this one small area. I love that you can see the Texas Capitol peeking behind their heads when they are seated under the Petals sculptures. If you want to take any photos inside the Museum itself, permission is required.
  • WARDROBE: You’ll be surrounded by some bright, vivid colors, so keep that in mind when planning your outfits.

Tumlinson Park – Extended Family Photo Session

Tumlinson Park – Extended Family Photo Session

Leander Park | Extended Family Photo Session

This extended family chose Tumlinson Park in Leander, Texas for a photo session celebrating their matriarch’s 97th birthday.

We made sure to get lots of pairings and combinations of all the local and visiting family members.

Tips for an Extended Family Photo Session at Tumlinson Park:

  • PARKING: There is a parking lot near the Block House with a paved path to the Pavillion (if you also have family members with mobility concerns).
  • LOCATIONS: A small wooded area makes a lovely backdrop. There’s also a narrow bridge nearby (if you don’t have to navigate wheelchairs).
  • WARDROBE: Pick a coordinating color palette and have everyone wear some of the same colors.

Where to take Senior Photos on the University of Texas Campus?

Where to take Senior Photos on the University of Texas Campus?

Hello, Fellow Longhorn: Congratulations on graduating from UT! Here are my Top 10 most popular spots on campus for Senior Photo Sessions.

They don’t call it Forty Acres for nothing. Since the University of Texas campus is so large, it’s good to be strategic when planning your College Senior Photo Sessions.

Here are my Top 10 favorite locations. Prioritize your favorite ones when planning your photo session on campus.

1. University of Texas Tower

Why It’s Great: It’s the most recognized symbol on campus. And there’s lots of variety possible through different angles and distances.  (FYI: It’s due to have construction starting in November 2024 and lasting for several years).

Tips: Afternoon sessions cast the best light on the tower. Keep in mind this popular spot can get very crowded on weekends close to graduation.

2. Littlefield Fountain

Why It’s Great: Elegant and classic, and just a short walk from the UT Tower, this fountain is a timeless favorite. The flower beds next to the fountain also make lovely backdrops.

Tips: Bring a bottle of champagne for a celebratory pop! And if you want to get in the fountain, have this be the last stop of your photo shoot. And pack a towel for afterwards 🙂

3. Mary Gearing Hall

Why It’s Great: This spot has great views of the Tower as well.

Tips: You can pose by the gate with the Tower in the background or perch on the fountain in the courtyard.

4. Battle Hall’s Architecture Doors

Why It’s Great: These green/blue doors add a pop of color and architectural charm.

Tips: You might have a long line to wait in for your turn at the doors. Nearby Sutton Hall also has a lovely blue door to use instead.

5. Architecture Courtyard (Goldsmith Hall)

Why It’s Great: From the wrought iron gates to the tiled fountain, this greenery filled courtyard has pleasing backgrounds from many angles.

Tips: Use the arches or doorways to frame your shot.

6. University of Texas sign (South Side of Mall)

Why It’s Great: You can get another angle with the Tower in the background as well as the schools name.

Tips: Climb up and get your horns ready.

moody bridge college of communication

7. Moody Bridge, College of Communication

Why It’s Great: The bridge’s sleek and modern look is a contrast to some of the older architecture on campus.

Tips: We can use the leading lines of the bridge to center you in your cap & gown.

8. Greenhouse near the Tower

Why It’s Great: The weathered white walls and glass panels make a charming backdrop.

Seaholm / Butterfly Bridge – Family Photo Session

Seaholm / Butterfly Bridge – Family Photo Session

Downtown Austin | Family Photo Session

This family chose the Seaholm District and Butterfly Bridge area for their yearly photo session. I’ve been lucky to photograph this family for over 10 years now. And six years ago, we also met in the same Downtown Austin area for photos.

See below for some then & now comparisons from 2018 to 2024:

then and now family photo comparison from 2018 to 2024 in the same part of austin

One advantage of using the same Austin Family Photographer year after year, is that she can replicate poses so you can really see how your child has grown.

Tips for Family Photo Sessions in the Seaholm District:

  • PARKING: Garage parking is available at the Central Library or Trader Joes nearby (you can also use the restrooms at the library if they’re open)
  • LOCATIONS: There’s a great variety of urban and nature backgrounds in a few block radius. Make sure you take advantage of all the different backdrops available.
  • TRAFFIC: This area is very popular, so expect other photo shoots to be happening at the same time and take your turn in front of popular spots. You will also have literal car traffic going across the Butterfly Bridge, so be careful when photographing there.

Anderson Homecoming – Event Photos

Anderson Homecoming – Event Photos

Anderson High School Homecoming | Event Photo Session

Homecoming Season is here in Austin, Texas. Do you want to make the most of this special time? From choosing your perfect outfit to getting ready with friends, I’m here to capture the memories you create.

What’s the best way to do that? Schedule a Homecoming pre-party photo session. This allows you to:

  • Celebrate and document your friends looking their best
  • Show off your style – from dresses to shoes to accessories
  • Capture the excitement before the HOCO dance begins
  • Take the pressure off of taking the photos yourself so you can just enjoy the party
  • Ensure you have moments to share online or in a printed album

For this group of Anderson High School Juniors, we took some posed photos in the front yard by the gold sequin and balloon backdrop, as well as in the backyard with more candid groupings. If you’d like to have a similar event, see my tips below.

Tips for Homecoming Pre-Party photos:

  • Make sure all your guests know to arrive at the same time for group photos
  • If you can, plan to have the party start before it’s dark so you can get some photos with that sunset “golden hour” glow
  • Coordinate with your friends in case you want matching bouquets or other similar details in your outfits
  • Plan on personalized backdrops at your location to make the photos feel extra special
