What to expect from a photo shoot on Rock Rose Ave – Family Photo Session

What to expect from a photo shoot on Rock Rose Ave – Family Photo Session

If you want a colorful variety of backgrounds for your family photo session – head to North Austin. The Domain shopping center (Rock Rose Ave. in particular) has what you need. Keep in mind it’s extra busy with shoppers on the weekend – but if you park in the garages on the outskirts, you’ll be fine.

Still wondering what to expect from this location? Check out the pics from this fun family below:

That street has become one of my favorite urban spots in North Austin – so many different murals and scenes to choose from.

But you can also find patches of green to enjoy as well.

And we can’t forget my favorite purple window coverings (I’ll be sad when an actual store opens in this spot and my pretty background goes away).

Thanks for walking around with me 🙂

1. How do you know Stephanie Friedman Photography?

Stephanie and I met 8 years ago when we moved in a few doors down from her. Since then, we have done 4 sessions with her…two family photo sessions, a best friend session with my daughter and her bestie and a branding shoot with my real estate colleagues.

2. What was your favorite part of your photo session?

Every time I have worked with Stephanie, she makes us feel so relaxed in front of the camera. From making us act silly, to posing us perfectly, to the fart machine to make my kids laugh.

3. What advice would you give to other families planning a photo session?

Don’t stress about the shoot or over think it. Stephanie makes it so easy. She has several blog posts on location ideas that are really helpful. Stuck on outfit choices? She always has great recommendations. Grumpy kids? She can handle that (the fart machine was a hit with my kids). Sweaty faces? She comes prepared with blotting sheets and a fan. She has an eye for perfect backdrops and makes everyone look their best.

4. Anything else you’d like to add?

Smile big ? and enjoy it. The family having fun will show through in the photos.

Fall at Mills Pond – Family Photo Session

Fall at Mills Pond – Family Photo Session

Last year we had an urban background for their yearly photo session, so this time around we headed to Mills Pond in Wells Branch for some nature and fall colors.

Mill Pond has lots of great locations if you’re looking for a setting up north (near Wells Branch) for your own family photo session.

Features include a small wooden boardwalk (where you may be asked to name as many different Boy Scout Popcorn flavors hot-potato-style until you run out):

Great trees:

Plenty of places to sit and snuggle:

Happy exploring!

All the tricks Stephanie had up her sleeve to coax some wonderful smiles out of the kids!

Make sure your kids have had an opportunity to run around before the photo shoot (otherwise, they may do it during the photo shoot)!

4. Anything else you’d like to add?

Stephanie is a delight to work with, and is so flexible and open to whatever comes up. At the same time, she is very prepared and has lots of great ideas to make things fun and to capture some wonderful moments.

1. How do you know Stephanie Friedman Photography?

We met Stephanie years ago through mutual friends. She took our first family photos when our son was about 9 months old, and she has been our official family photographer ever since.

2. What was your favorite part of your photo session?

We usually do photos of our nuclear family, so this one was special because my siblings and their families (and fiance) joined us for the session. The location and weather were some of the best yet!

3. What advice would you give to other families planning a photo session?

My advice is to take Stephanie’s advice. She is professional and prepared. She’ll send you her tips for making the most out of your photo session, and if you follow her lead, you can’t go wrong.

4. Anything else you’d like to add?

Stephanie is especially patient and brilliant with kids — even at their crankiest. Fortunately, ours behaved this time around, and they loved their session!

Seaholm exploring – Cribs not Cages Auction Winner

Seaholm exploring – Cribs not Cages Auction Winner

This summer I donated a family photo session to the Cribs Not Cages auction benefiting Raices. This family (who also happen to be friends) had the winning bid.

So we met up in the Seaholm area to redeem their family photo session this month.

Thanks again for bidding towards this cause (helping and advocating for separated immigrant families).

It was so much fun watching the kids climb and scout out the downtown landscape.

1. How do you know Stephanie Friedman Photography?

I was first introduced to Stephanie Friedman Photography when our sons were in the same preschool class at the elementary school.  She took these vivid photos of the bubble class.  The photos were very active and caught the spirit of each child in the class.  From those few photos, I could not wait to use her again, I used her service for beautiful wildflower photos.  I loved how she incorporated my children’s stuffed animals and whimsy in her pictures.  I always feel luck to have a chance to be in a class with her son as I know there will be magical photos taken during the year.

2. What was your favorite part of your photo session?

My favorite part of the photo session was how she let my children come up with their own ideas of how to pose and what to do.  She was incredibly patient with them and really let them explore so that their personalities came through.  I love her ability to let the kids take charge and to respect their ideas — it really make them feel part of the whole photo session.  She is sweet, funny, and caring which really allows for the kids to relax and be themselves.

3. What advice would you give to other families planning a photo session?

I would tell any family who was planning a photo session to have fun!!  Let your children be spontaneous and quirky.  Try to start the photo session with the shirts tucked in and hair brushed, but if at the end, the shirt is no longer tucked in and the hair a bit wild, let that wonderful part of your child be captured.

4. Anything else you’d like to add?

I love Stephanie Friedman Photography.  She does such an amazing job!

Christmas in your Backyard – Family Photo Session

Christmas in your Backyard – Family Photo Session

When your house looks this festive for the holidays, it makes perfect sense to have your family portrait session right in your own backyard.

If you also want a photo session at home, I may ask you to re-arrange some plants, move your cars or transport lawn furniture into the good light.

Then we can capture your family’s personality (dogs included).

And make sure Mom & Dad get at least one sweet photo of just them.

Happy Holidays!

1. How do you know Stephanie Friedman Photography?

I hired Stephanie in the past to shoot a birthday party. She set up a super fun photo booth and my guests absolutely loved their souvenir shots.

“Dolly Parton” in the musical-themed photo booth

2. What was your favorite part of your photo session?

Stephanie relaxes everyone in the group with her cheerful personality, and we loved the process as she spontaneously offered up ideas for poses and backgrounds.

3. What advice would you give to other families planning a photo session?

Don’t try to overthink wardrobe with something too stuffy. Be comfortable and you!

4. Anything else you’d like to add?

It’s a great pleasure to work with Stephanie. She’s reliable, genuine and has a great eye!
