Seaholm District – Senior + Family Photos

Seaholm District – Senior + Family Photos

Downtown Austin Senior +  Family Photos | Austin Senior Photographer

This Class of 2025 LASA High School Senior picked the Seaholm District in Downtown Austin for their photo session location. They wanted a mixture of urban and nature for their backgrounds.

Their mom also wanted to add on a family mini-session since it’d been too long since they’d had professional photos taken as a whole family.

The family mini-session photos can be interspersed during the whole Senior session or happen just at the end of the session. For this group, it worked out to do the majority of family photos in the middle.

If you live in Austin and are also interested in having your Senior Photo Session in the Seaholm area, check out my tips below.

Tips for Senior & Family Photo Sessions in the Seaholm District:

  • It can get crowded with other photo sessions at peak times (weekend evenings in Spring and Fall) – so pick off times if possible.
  • Garage parking is available at the Austin Central Library or Trader Joe’s nearby (Trader Joe’s will validate your parking with purchase)
  • Have a spotter when you’re taking photos on the Butterfly Bridge and be ready to get out of the way fast if cars are coming
  • Bring props that help highlight your Senior Year experience (ex. Letter jacket, photo of you from kindergarden, etc.)
  • If you need a place to change or restrooms, the Austin Central Library is right there (if your session is during their open hours)
  • Make a plan to eat downtown after your session; there are lots of great restaurants within walking distance

University of Texas at Austin campus | College Senior and Family Photo Session

Did you know that the University of Texas Tower building will undergo construction starting Fall of 2024 and go until Summer of 2027?

Not wanting construction fencing in her photos, this Class of 2025 Senior’s mom made sure to get her family and senior graduation pictures done early.

And we weren’t alone in this plan, lots of other graduation photos were happening on campus the same night.

If you’d also like to plan ahead, the University Co-Op has cap & gowns in stock (but the 2025 tassel charm was not available yet, so we left it out of our photos). If you’re planning on photos after January 2025, you should be able to get the correct year on your tassel charm.

Tips for a College Senior Photo Session at the University of Texas at Austin:

    • Around Graduation, Campus gets full of photo sessions, so try and plan early or choose off-times for your photos.
    • You may need to wait your turn in front of popular spots.
    • Iron your regalia.
    • You can pose in your full cap and gown, part of your regalia, regular clothes or any combination of the above.
    • If you have a particular spot on campus that means a lot to you (ex. where you took the majority of your classes), let your photographer know – I also have a BLOG POST with my location recommendations
    • If your family will be in town, we can add-on a mini-family photo session
    • Bring two bottles of (cheap) champagne if you want to pop the cork (and a towel for after you spray it in the air)
    • Get ready to “Hook ‘Em Horns!”

Hello, Fellow Longhorn: Congratulations on graduating from UT! Here are my Top 10 most popular spots on campus for Senior Photo Sessions.

They don’t call it Forty Acres for nothing. Since the University of Texas campus is so large, it’s good to be strategic when planning your College Senior Photo Sessions.

Here are my Top 10 favorite locations. Prioritize your favorite ones when planning your photo session on campus.

1. University of Texas Tower

Why It’s Great: It’s the most recognized symbol on campus. And there’s lots of variety possible through different angles and distances.  (FYI: It’s due to have construction starting in November 2024 and lasting for several years).

Tips: Afternoon sessions cast the best light on the tower. Keep in mind this popular spot can get very crowded on weekends close to graduation.

2. Littlefield Fountain

Why It’s Great: Elegant and classic, and just a short walk from the UT Tower, this fountain is a timeless favorite. The flower beds next to the fountain also make lovely backdrops.

Tips: Bring a bottle of champagne for a celebratory pop! And if you want to get in the fountain, have this be the last stop of your photo shoot. And pack a towel for afterwards 🙂

3. Mary Gearing Hall

Why It’s Great: This spot has great views of the Tower as well.

Seider Springs Park Senior Photos | Austin Senior Photographer

Looking for a serene spot in Central Austin for your senior portraits? As an experienced Austin senior photographer, I recently captured a memorable session at Seider Springs Greenbelt, a hidden gem along Shoal Creek. The greenery and peaceful vibe make it a perfect location for high school senior photos.

I’ve photographed families before at Seider Springs Greenbelt, but this was my first high school Senior photo session held there.

If you’re also interested in having your Senior Photo Session at Seider Springs, check out my tips below.

Tips for Senior Photo Sessions at Seider Springs Greenbelt:

  • There’s convenient parking near St. Andrews School (you’ll only be able to park on one side of the street – follow the signs).
  • Seasonal fall colors appear around late November / early December.
  • This park is secluded and rarely crowded for a personalized experience.
  • Note: this park does not have restrooms, so plan to change outfits in your car.

Pease Park – Austin Senior Photos

Pease Park Senior Photos | Austin Senior Photographer

As an Austin senior photographer, I love capturing portraits at iconic locations like Pease Park.

This session for an Anderson High School senior started in Live Oak Meadow, where towering oaks and Shoal Creek create a stunning backdrop. We ended at Kingsbury Commons, known for its Treehouse and Tudor Cottage. Pease Park offers the perfect blend of natural beauty and architectural charm.

If you live in Austin and are also interested in having your Senior Photo Session at Pease Park, check out my tips below.

Tips for Senior Photo Sessions at Pease Park:

  • For more of a natural background, the Live Oak Meadow has lots of tall oak trees, some with beautiful hanging Spanish Moss, as well as easy access to explore Shoal Creek. Certain times of year the water levels may be very low.
  • If you want to include some architectural elements, Kingsbury Commons has the two-story metal and rope Treehouse. It aslo has a nature play area and the charming Tudor Cottage.
  • In my experience, it’s been easier to find parking by the Live Oak Meadow than the Kingsbury Commons (and it’s about a 7-10 minute walk between both spots so make sure you’re wearing or bringing comfortable shoes)
  • Check the Park’s Events Page to make sure there isn’t a conflict during your session
  • The Park gets crowded on weekends so try to pick off times to visit for your photo session. (FYI: this spot is very popular for all types of photo sessions, so don’t be surprised to see other photographer’s working there)
  • The park has restrooms you can use for Senior session outfit changes

  2. What advice would you give to others planning a similar Senior photo session? Be relaxed, the photos will look much more natural if you have fun.
  3. Anything else you’d like to add about working with Stephanie Friedman Photography?  She was incredibly nice and helped so much to make the shoot as comfortable as possible. (Senior)

We had the pleasure of working with Stephanie, and the entire experience was fantastic! She was communicative and provided clear directions before, during, and after the shoot, which made the process smooth and stress-free. Stephanie’s professionalism, along with her warm and approachable demeanor, made us feel comfortable from start to finish. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a seamless and enjoyable experience! (Mom)

Waterloo Greenway Park – Senior Photo Session

Waterloo Greenway Park – Senior Photo Session

Fall blooms in downtown Austin park for High School Senior Photo Session

This Class of 2025 Anderson High School Senior picked Waterloo Greenway Park for her photo location.

waterloo greenway park senior photo session

waterloo greenway park downtown austin fall senior photo session of 2025

I made a pre-session scouting trip to ensure that the park was looking green and vibrant after a hot summer. I was so happy to see some flowers in bloom. Then, I double checked the park’s event page to make sure we didn’t have a conflict. Knowing there were no events that night, we met up one September evening for photos.

If you’re also interested in having your Senior Photo Session at Waterloo Greenway Park, check out my essential tips below.

Tips for Senior Photo Sessions at Waterloo Greenway Park:

  • Check the Park’s Events Page to make sure there isn’t a conflict during your session
  • There is free metered parking after 6pm on side streets next to the park, and the nearby Capitol Visitor’s Garage offers the first two hours of parking for free – but check the UT Football schedule as well before you book – because the Visitor’s Garage is used for some tailgating on game days
  • The park has restrooms you can use for outfit changes
  • This spot is very popular for all types of photo sessions, so don’t be surprised to see other photographer’s working there.
  • FYI – the park will be expanding in the future

  1. What do you plan to do with your digital photos? Parent: I will have some prints made to give to a few family members. I’ll also use one or more images to create a graduation announcement postcard to mail out in May 2025.
Senior: Maybe post some on my Instagram account and print some out for myself and family
  2. How did you choose your location for your session? Parent: I was familiar with Waterloo Greenway and all the vegetation growing there. And luckily it was a perfect spot to take Marin’s senior photos! There’s lots of plants still in bloom, and it was very lush and green. It’s also just 10 minutes from our house so it was very conveniently located.
  3. What advice would you give to others planning a similar Senior photo session? Parent: Go with Stephanie rather than the photo studios owned by the various yearbook companies. These studios start sending out emails at the end of junior year, so I went with Cady photo studio. I felt a little overwhelmed, and I just didn’t want to start researching pricing with independent photographers. We didn’t have a great experience at Cady though, which was very disappointing. Stephanie cares about her work and clearly loves photography. She makes having your photo taken so fun! Marin, who has always been introverted and quiet, felt so at ease while Stephanie took her picture. It’s all because of Stephanie’s amazingly cheerful demeanor and her continual encouragement during Marin’s photo session. Senior: It’s fun and Stephanie really cares about making the photos look nice and likes trying new ideas.
  4. Anything else you’d like to add about working with Stephanie Friedman Photography?Parent: Stephanie was so thoughtful and packed waters for us and a small, handheld fans for us to use. She had a small rolling cart that made it easy to transport her equipment around the park and let us throw our stuff in there too. Overall, it was just a 10 out of 10 experience. Stephanie really hit it out of the park (pun intended because I’m a nerd)! I had to stop myself several times from getting teary-eyed, or just full on crying, watching my sweet Marin so happy and at ease while being photographed for her senior pictures. A huge thanks to Stephanie for more than making up for our less than great first senior photo experience. Our session with Stephanie became a core memory moment that we’ll have forever and I’m just so grateful!
Senior: I felt like a VIP!
